What is polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate (PC) is a high-impact, transparent engineering plastic. In Turkey most 19-litre water bottles are made from it; the trade simply calls them PC bottles.
Why is it used for bottles?
It is not as brittle as glass, it can be refilled, and it stands stacking and handling loads. When its life is over it is collected as scrap, crushed and turned into flake — ground plastic raw material.
What is flake?
Flake is ground plastic feedstock. Clean, homogeneous PC flake becomes secondary raw material on injection and extrusion lines. Mixed colour, cap and label residue lower the price; that is why on-site separation matters.
How it differs from Tritan
Tritan is a copolyester, marketed as a BPA-free alternative. It looks like PC and must be kept separate in recycling. Mixed grinding harms both quality and price.
At the plant we prefer to process polycarbonate and Tritan bottles on separate streams. If your scrap stock is mixed, we plan the sort on the survey.
